If you’ve been following for a while, you know that I love protein/food bars. I have been lucky enough in the past to try Rowdy Bar through Daily Goodie Box, and I hit the jackpot again. First time, I tried the Chocolate Coconut Cashew . This time, Peanutty Dark Chocolate .
I wanted to research a bit more what sets Rowdy Bar apart from the others, and found that they use Yacon Root. Yacon Root can be used as a syrup for many health benefits, including digestion.
The yacón (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is a species of perennial daisy traditionally grown in the northern and central Andes from Colombia to northern Argentina for its crisp, sweet-tasting, tuberous roots. Their texture and flavour are very similar to jícama, mainly differing in that yacón has some slightly sweet, resinous, and floral (similar to violet) undertones to its flavour, probably due to the presence of inulin, which produces the sweet taste of the roots of elecampane, as well. Another name for yacón is Peruvian ground apple, possibly from the French name of potato, pomme de terre (ground apple). The tuber is composed mostly of water and fructooligosaccharide.

I do remember I wasn’t a huge fan of the Chocolate Coconut Cashew, but always open to try at least three products from a company before I decide if I like them or not. I may just not be in to a particular flavor.
After tasting the Peanutty Dark Chocolate , I was not a fan of this flavor either. The bar itself was really hard. I used my hands to tear a piece off and it was quite difficult. The bar itself was also tough to chew. Kinda waxy. I will pass on future purchases of this bar.
